San Cassiano in Alta Badia
A small and enchanting village at the foot of Lavarella
The village of San Cassiano is situated at 1,535 metres above sea level and is surrounded by the Conturines and Lavarella massifs. The village centre is popular due to its pedestrian zone where you can find restaurants, clothes shops and sports equipment. At the centre of the village you can visit the Ursus Ladinicus museum, the Dolomite bear is located in the Conturines mountain. The village of San Cassiano is renowned amongst hikers and mountaineers who can test themselves on the most arduous climbs on the Dolomite walls at Lagazuoi or Sella.
In winter the Piz Sorega cable-car facilities which bring you quickly to the slopes of the Dolomiti Superski starts from the village. The Alta Badia Cross-Country Skiing Centre in the wonderful Armentarola basin offers not only a spectacular cross-country circuit for skiers but also tracks for walks in the snow or excursions with snow shoes in the surrounding forests.
